eBay product research

eBay product research, from real sold listings.

Before you buy stock or write a listing, five questions decide whether it will sell and for how much. eBay's sold list answers them slowly and its research tool answers some. SoldPeak answers all five in one search, counted from every completed listing it has recorded.

The five questions

What eBay product research has to answer

Every sourcing or pricing decision comes down to the same five questions. A research tool is good to the degree it answers them from sales that happened, not listings that are asking.

  1. 01DemandHow many sold, and how fast?Total sold in the window and sales per day. Ten a day is a product you can source in volume; ten a quarter is one you price carefully and wait on.
  2. 02PriceWhat does it actually sell for?The average and the median, the middle-half range, and the trend. A median tells you the typical sale; the range tells you where to sit for a fast sale or a full price.
  3. 03CompetitionWho sells it, and how much of the market do they hold? The top sellers by username with their share, volume, average price and feedback. A market with one seller at 60 percent is a different decision from twenty sellers at 5 each.
  4. 04TimingWhen do buyers buy?Sales by day of week and hour of day, in the marketplace's time zone. End auctions and publish listings into the busy hours, not away from them.
  5. 05TitleWhich words sold? The words that appeared in sold titles, how often, and what those listings fetched against the average. Build the 80 characters from the words that carried the price.

What eBay's Product Research shows, and what it leaves out

The research tab in Seller Hub is what remains of Terapeak after eBay renamed it and removed the totals in 2024. It is free with a seller account and worth knowing the shape of.

QuestioneBay Product Research, 2026
Average sold price, price range, free-shipping shareYes
Total sold and total salesRemoved in June 2024
Trend by dayYes, over up to 90 days of sell-through
Sellers by nameNo, anonymized
Title keywordsNo
Best day and hourNo
Export or APINo
Needs an eBay seller accountYes, with a sale

The other free route is eBay's sold filter on any search, which our guide on how to see sold items on eBay walks through. It is a list, about 90 days deep, with no totals or averages, and reading it well is a routine of its own: see reading eBay sold listings.

One search

How one SoldPeak report answers all five

Type a product, pick eBay.com or eBay.co.uk and a window, and the report comes back as one page with tabs.

Overview opens with the average sold price and the median, the middle-half range, total sold and sales per day, total sales in dollars, average shipping and the free-shipping share. Under them: the share that took a Best Offer, the share sold at auction with the average bid count, and the average total a buyer paid. The trend shows items sold and average price by day, week or month, then the price distribution and the breakdowns by condition, format, category and item location.

Sold listings is every sale in the window in a sortable table with a link to the listing, exportable to CSV or JSON on paid plans. Open one for its photos, item specifics, description, seller and that listing's own sales history.

Sellers, on Professional, ranks the top sellers by username with share, volume, average price, revenue and feedback, and Item specifics breaks the sales down by the attributes buyers chose: storage, size, grade, colour.

Best time to sell maps sales by weekday and hour, and Title builder ranks the words in sold titles by frequency and price lift with an 80-character composer.

Nothing on the page is sampled or estimated. The totals, averages, trend, breakdowns and title words count every recorded sale in the window. Where a figure comes from the most recent sales rather than all of them, the report says so.

Questions

Questions about eBay product research

Checking what a product has actually sold for on eBay, how often, and who sold it, before you buy stock or write a listing. It replaces guessing with the record of completed sales.

For a quick look at one product's average price, often yes. It no longer shows total sold or total sales, it anonymizes sellers, it has no title or timing analysis and no export, and it needs a seller account. Sellers who used Terapeak before 2024 notice what is missing.

The Free plan runs five searches a day over the last 30 days with no card. Personal is $19 a month with 90 days of history, every filter, export and listing details. Professional is $49 a month with history back to July 2026, competitor research, item specifics, bulk research and the API.

Professional reaches back to July 2026, the start of SoldPeak's data, and keeps every day from here on. The totals and trends count every recorded sale in the window; nothing is sampled or estimated.

eBay.com in US dollars and eBay.co.uk in pounds, each in its own currency. More sites are planned.

Yes. Category research takes any node of eBay's category tree, with or without keywords, and returns the same report for everything sold inside it.

Yes. Bulk research takes a list of products, 10 on Personal and 25 on Professional, and returns one table with price, volume, total sales and sales per day for each.
